The Cincinnati Reds announced the hiring of three-time Manager of the Year Lou Piniella on Friday, reuniting the club's former skipper with the franchise he guided to a World Series title.

Piniella, 72, will serve as a senior advisor to baseball operations, the team said.

The move also reunites Piniella with current Reds manager Bryan Price, who served as his pitching coach during their days together with the Seattle Mariners.

Piniella managed the Reds from 1990-92, winning 91 games and the World Series in 1990, while compiling a 255-231 record during his three seasons at the helm.

A one-time All-Star and 1969 Rookie of the Year, Piniella spent 18 seasons in the majors as a player before embarking on a memorable managerial career.

Known for his colorful personality and elaborate dugout tantrums, Piniella guided his teams to six division titles and one World Series championship across his 23 seasons as a manager. He made three-year stops with the Yankees, Reds, and Devil Rays, and spent 10 seasons as the skipper in Seattle, where he won the Manager of the Year twice (1995 and 2001). He finished his managerial career with the Chicago Cubs, winning his third manager award in 2008 and posting a .519 winning percentage over parts of four seasons.
