Mets, Familia avoid arbitration with $4.1M deal

The New York Mets have settled with their lone arbitration-eligible player, agreeing to a one-year, $4.1-million deal with closer Jeurys Familia, as first reported by MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Familia had filed for a $4.8-million salary in 2016, while the team countered at $3.3 million.

His arbitration case was set to be heard in mid-February.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports Familia is now the highest-paid closer with only one full season of closing under his belt, surpassing Baltimore Orioles lefty Zach Britton's $3.2-million deal from the 2015 season.

The 26-year-old earned 43 saves in 48 chances last season, compiling a 1.85 ERA in 76 outings.
