Todd Helton looking for job with Rockies

Todd Helton officially retired from baseball after the 2013 season, and now he's ready to return to the game after a two-year hiatus.

The former Colorado Rockies first baseman, who enjoyed a successful 17-year career with the franchise, hopes to help the club in some capacity moving forward.

"Absolutely, I'd love to get back into the game - I've had two years off now, and I think that's enough," Helton said on MLB Network Radio on Tuesday. "I don't know if I want to get back into uniform because you're still traveling, and traveling is what gets you. I still have young kids I'd like to get into the game somehow, make an impact."

The Rockies retired Helton's No. 17 in 2014, honoring the franchise's all-time leader in games played (2,247), hits (2,519), home runs (369), and RBIs (1,406), among other statistical categories. It's unclear, though, if the organization plans to grant Helton's request, or how it would utilize his skill set.

"I'm not sure what that role is yet," Helton added. "Hopefully talk to the Rockies. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I'm forever a Rockie. Hopefully, I'll get to talk to them and make a difference somehow in the organization."

In the meantime, Helton will have to be content rooting for his good pal, Peyton Manning, as he attempts to claim his second Super Bowl ring Sunday when the Denver Broncos do battle with the Carolina Panthers.
