Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said he expects there to be an open competition for the closer job in spring training

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said he expects there to be an open competition for the closer job in spring training, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Analysis:

Ramos enjoyed a great deal of success in the ninth-inning role last season, converting nine straight save chances to end the year to bring his total to 32. He has the swing-and-miss stuff to continue to thrive in a high-leverage role, but Ramos has battled control issues in the past, and it sounds like the Marlins may be reluctant to just hand him the job before spring training even gets underway. It will be a two-man race between Ramos and Carter Capps, who had a 1.16 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 31 innings last season.
