Report: MLB determines Darvish not involved in brother's gambling ring

Yu Darvish has reportedly been cleared of any involvement in his brother's illegal gambling case in Japan.

According to baseball sources, Major League Baseball has determined the Texas Rangers right-hander had no involvement with his brother's illegal operation, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

On Jan. 19, MLB began to investigate the pitcher after his younger brother was charged last year with operating a gambling ring that took bets on MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball games in Japan.

Yu's brother, Sho Darvish, was arrested Oct. 27 following an investigation in which he was alleged to have accepted around 1,850 wagers valued at $1,520 USD each on professional games in both North America and Japan. It was unclear if any bets were taken on games involving the Rangers.

Yu issued a statement through his agent the same day the investigation was announced which said he understood MLB had to conduct an investigation, and he was certain they'd find he had no involvement.

The 29-year-old Yu is a three-time All-Star, who's spent the past four seasons with the Rangers, missing all of the 2015 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

He owns a career record of 39-25 with an ERA of 3.27, striking out 11.2 hitters per nine innings across 83 starts.
