Rockies GM: Our interest in Gallardo is 'fairly overblown'

The Colorado Rockies may not be interested in adding free-agent Yovani Gallardo to their starting rotation after all.

According to general manager Jeff Bridich, the rumors surrounding his club's interest in the right-hander were blown out of proportion.

"Fairly overblown, a lot of what came out was a product of the agent group," Bridich told Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post at Rockies Fest on Saturday. "When you get bombarded by texts, calls, and finally take a call, that does not equate to serious negotiations."

Reports surfaced on Friday indicating the Rockies' initial interest in Gallardo, and on Saturday the two parties were reportedly in "serious talks," but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Gallardo, who earned a 13-11 record with a career-best 3.42 ERA over 33 starts last season, could have potentially addressed a need for the Rockies, who finished dead last in team ERA with a 5.04 mark.

Instead, the Rockies may rely on a youngsters Chad Bettis, Jordan Lyles, Jon Gray, and Tyler Chatwood following ace Jorge De La Rosa in the club's rotation.
