Fernando Rodney will have a chance to revitalize his career in Southern California.

The two-time All-Star reliever reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1.65-million deal with the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union Tribune, who notes the deal comes with a $2-million team option for 2017 and includes up to $5 million in incentives.

Year IP ERA WHIP SO
2015 62.2 4.74 1.40 58
2014 66.1 2.85 1.34 76
2013 66.2 3.38 1.33 76
2012 74.2 0.60 0.77 82

Rodney is coming off the worst season of his 13-year career, having blown six of 22 save opportunities with the Seattle Mariners before he was designated for assignment in August.

The 38-year-old bounced back during his brief tenure with the Chicago Cubs, allowing one run over 12 innings, and striking out 15 while being used in lower-leverage situations. He was included on the team's postseason roster, and allowed two runs over 1 2/3 innings in the playoffs.

After trading Joaquin Benoit earlier this winter, it's believed that Rodney will enter spring training as the favorite to win the closer's job. He's converted 326 saves over the course of his career, picking up a career-high 48 in 2014 with the Mariners.
