Jordan Pacheco lands minor-league deal with Reds
The rebuilding Cincinnati Reds have found another low-cost veteran to audition for a spot on the 25-man roster, signing Jordan Pacheco to a minor-league deal Friday that includes an invitation to MLB spring training.
The versatile 30-year-old owns a .278/.317/.372 line (78 OPS+) over parts of five seasons in the majors, logging most of his time behind the plate and at the infield corners across stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.
In 2015, Pacheco appeared in 29 games for the Diamondbacks, hitting .242/.333/.333 (82 OPS+) with two homers while spending most of the year with Triple-A Reno.
Though the Reds already have four catchers on their 40-man roster, Pacheco could compete with Ivan De Jesus Jr. and Adam Duvall for the club's backup infielder job.
