Mariners, Martin avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

Kevin Jairaj / USA TODAY Sports

Leonys Martin avoided arbitration by agreeing a one-year, $4.15 million contract with the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

Analysis:

Martin remains under team control through the 2018 campaign, now having gone through his first year of arbitration. The 27-year-old center fielder struggled at the dish last season, batting just .219/.264/.313 before losing his center field job to a surprise contributor in Delino DeShields Jr., but an offseason trade to Seattle should put him in line for an everyday role again in 2016.
