Marlins finalize deals with Jackson, Johnson

The Miami Marlins have added two veteran players to their club for the 2016 season, officially agreeing to deals with right-hander Edwin Jackson and third baseman Chris Johnson.

Jackson agreed to a one-year deal worth the league minimum on Jan. 5 after a 2015 campaign that saw him released by the Chicago Cubs, who are still on the hook for $13 million of his salary.

The 32-year-old finished the season with the Atlanta Braves, recording a 3.07 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 47 relief appearances.

Johnson, 31, also had a down year. He was released by the Cleveland Indians, who acquired him from the Braves in August in exchange for Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher.

Johnson was once a potent bat in the Braves' lineup, hitting .321/.358/.457 with 12 home runs and 68 RBIs in 2013, but he hasn't been able to replicate the same kind of success, combining to hit .254 with 13 home runs and 76 RBIs over the past two seasons.
