Report: Rollins holding out for shortstop opportunity

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports

Veteran infielder Jimmy Rollins is receiving no shortage of interest sitting on the free-agent market, but his desire to remain at shortstop is holding up negotiations.

Multiple teams have inquired about Rollins moving over to second base, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, though the four-time Gold Glove winner is holding out for a team who views him as its shortstop.

Rollins has spent his entire 16-year career at shortstop, with the exception of appearing at second for 1/3 of an inning in 2002.

The 37-year-old appeared in 144 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, hitting .224/.285/.358 with 13 home runs, 12 stolen bases, and 86 strikeouts. Rollins posted a minus-7 defensive runs saved last season, the third-worst mark of his career.

The Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, and potentially the Colorado Rockies are teams that could use the veteran shortstop.
