The Texas Rangers added some depth behind the plate Wednesday, agreeing to a minor-league contract with veteran backstop Michael McKenry, according to Jeff Blake, the team's executive vice president of communications.

McKenry's contract includes an invite to spring training.

Appearing in 58 games in 2015 with the Colorado Rockies, McKenry underwent season-ending right knee surgery in August to repair a lateral meniscus tear.

The 30-year-old owns a career slash line of .239/.319/.407 with 29 home runs and 103 RBIs split between the Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Texas also announced the minor-league signing of left-hander Donnie Veal.

Veal, 31, appeared in five games for the Atlanta Braves last season and owns a career ERA of 5.48 in 105 major-league appearances.
