Report: White Sox active in outfield market
Having significantly upgraded his infield through a pair of trades earlier this month, Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn is now focused on the free-agent market.
Hahn remains active in the search for an outfielder, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, with Alex Gordon and Yoenis Cespedes' names among the possibilities.
Adam Eaton is coming off a strong season, while Melky Cabrera bounced back following a slow start, leaving the White Sox's biggest area of weakness coming from right field. Avisail Garcia slashed .257/.309/.365 with 13 home runs and 141 strikeouts in 148 games last season. The White Sox also lack depth in the outfield after dealing Trayce Thompson to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team deal that landed third baseman Todd Frazier.
Cespedes is coming off a season in which he clubbed a career-high 35 home runs and would immediately boost a lineup that hit an AL worst 136 homers in 2015.
Gordon brings a different skill set, but still has 20-homer potential. The four-time Gold Glove winner was limited to 104 games last season, but still managed 13 homers and 18 doubles.
Justin Upton, Gerardo Parra, and Denard Span are also top free-agent outfielders available.
