Report: Royals have 'no chance' to re-sign Gordon

The Kansas City Royals are going to have to dramatically increase their offer to Alex Gordon if they hope to retain his services for next year and beyond.

Kansas City has "no chance" of re-signing the outfielder as things currently stand, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

The Royals have reportedly tabled a four-year offer for around $13 million per season to the Nebraska native, but he's believed to be seeking closer to $20 million per annum on a long-term deal.

The sizable gap in contract negotiations has the Royals considering a group of second-tier outfielders including Denard Span, Austin Jackson, Gerardo Parra, and Alex Rios.

Gordon, a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glover, rejected the Royals' one-year, $15.8-million qualifying offer to become a free agent, and is reportedly receiving interest from the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants, among others.

The 31-year-old hit .271/.377/.432 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs and was limited to 104 games by a Grade 2 groin strain for the World Series champions last year.
