Puig's lawyer slams retracted story on bar fight

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Yasiel Puig's lawyer isn't happy with celebrity news website TMZ after it published a video Saturday morning that supposedly showed the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder in a physical altercation with a bouncer at the Blue Martini bar in Miami.

Puig wasn't charged by police, but is currently being investigated by Major League Baseball following a late November incident at the bar in which he allegedly incited a melee, including a fight with a bouncer, after a dispute with his sister. TMZ claimed to have footage of the fight and Puig leaving the hot spot under duress.

Puig's lawyer, Jay Reisinger, quickly denied the man in the TMZ clip was his client.

"Anyone who has actually ever seen Yasiel can see clearly it's not him," Reisinger said.

The man featured in the video appeared to have lighter skin than the Cuban-born Puig, and a much thicker beard than Puig has sported in the past.

TMZ issued the following statement after retracting the story:

The video we posted showing a man fighting another outside of the Blue Martini in Miami is not Yasiel Puig. TMZ Sports previously reported the video showed Puig based on representations made by people present at the club. But we have now determined he is not in the video. As we previously reported, Puig was involved in a fight at the bar on Thanksgiving eve - but this is not that fight.

MLB's investigation into Puig's role in the November incident is ongoing, and he could be fined or suspended under the league's domestic violence policy.
