Report: Indians discussing deal with Rajai Davis

Eager to improve their underwhelming outfield, the Cleveland Indians are reportedly discussing a deal with a seasoned veteran who spent the last two summers playing for a division rival.

The Indians are said to be discussing a one-year contract (with an option for 2017) with Rajai Davis, the 35-year-old who hit .272/.314/.418 with 54 stolen bases for the Detroit Tigers over the last two seasons, according to Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer. Davis isn't the only outfielder the Indians have their eye on, though, as USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Monday that the club also has interest in Shane Victorino.

Davis appeared in 112 games in 2015, spending time at all three outfield positions while managing 1.8 WAR, his most since 2009. Though he hit just .258 with a .306 on-base percentage and stole his fewest bases since first receiving regular playing time in 2007, Davis also posted a career-best .182 isolated power in 370 plate appearances, smacking eight homers while finishing tied for third in the majors with 11 triples.

Season WAR AVG wRC+ K% SB
2012 0.2 .257 84 20.9% 46
2013 1.1 .260 88 18.6% 45
2014 1.4 .282 103 15.2% 36
2015 1.8 .258 101 20.5% 18

The Indians' tentative Opening Day outfield remains decidedly underwhelming, too, with Michael Brantley liable to open the season on the disabled list following right shoulder surgery. As it stands, the Indians seem poised to start Abraham Almonte in center field, Jerry Sands in left, and Lonnie Chisenhall in right - three players who combined for 3.2 WAR in 2015.
