Report: Samardzija telling teams he received $100M offer
Coming off a career-worst season apparently isn't hurting Jeff Samardzija's stock on the free-agent market, according to the right-hander himself.
Teams that have spoken to Samardzija say he's claiming to have received an offer worth $100 million, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.
Samardzija allowed an MLB-worst 228 hits and 122 runs across 214 innings last season, but still presents a lot of upside, and is a strong candidate to bounce back. The eight-year veteran has averaged 206 innings over the past four seasons, never landing on the disabled list or missing a start due to injury in his career.
Year | W-L | ERA | IP | SO |
---|---|---|---|---|
2015 | 11-13 | 4.96 | 214 | 163 |
2014 ★ | 7-13 | 2.99 | 219.2 | 202 |
2013 | 8-13 | 4.34 | 213.2 | 214 |
The 30-year-old, who's thrown 991 2/3 career innings, has fewer miles on his arm than fellow free-agent starters his age Yovani Gallardo (1,473), Scott Kazmir (1,553), and Ian Kennedy (1,234).
With David Price and Jordan Zimmermann both off the board, and Zack Greinke reportedly set to decide between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, Samardzija is arguably the best remaining starter available.
