The Los Angeles Dodgers officially named Dave Roberts as their new manager on Monday, and president Stan Kasten is pleased with the final decision that the front office staff came to.

"It is a very exciting time," Kasten told MLB Network Radio. "As you know we've had a couple of good seasons, but at the end of last year we looked at a lot of things and when a decision was made to have a different manager we didn't really know where we were going to go.

Roberts comes to the Dodgers with only one game of MLB managerial experience on his resume, but Kasten believes his energy, enthusiasm, and work ethic among other traits, makes him the right man for the job.

"We think he's going to lead us to a lot of success in the future," Kasten exclaimed.

Kasten isn't the only person in the Dodgers' organization excited about the addition of Roberts. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez had sparkling reviews for his new manager

"He's a guy that has played all kinds of roles," Gonzalez told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. "He was a fourth and fifth outfielder. He was a starter. He had a few really good seasons. He's a guy that's come off the bench and done incredible things. He's going to be able to relate to a lot of the situations that players are in.

"He's probably the best human being I've ever met. People see that and people respond to that."

Along with Roberts, the Dodgers also reportedly interviewed Gabe Kapler, Bud Black, Kirk Gibson, Darin Erstad, Dave Martinez, and Bob Geren for the vacancy.

Kasten said the list of candidates was actually larger than the crop listed in the media.

"I know a lot of names were listed in the newspapers," Kasten explained. "I can tell you they spoke to more names than were written about and considered even more than that."

The Dodgers won their third consecutive division title in 2015 under the guidance of manager Don Mattingly, but were knocked out of the National League Division Series by the New York Mets.

Mattingly and the Dodgers mutually agreed to part ways on Oct. 22.
