D-Backs GM 'not in the mood' to trade prospects for closer

If you ask Dave Stewart, Brad Ziegler will be his closer in 2016.

The Arizona Diamondbacks general manager is looking to bolster his pitching staff this offseason, but he's content with his high-leverage options.

"With Ziegler doing the job that he has, I am looking to better ourselves more than likely in the front end versus the back end (of the bullpen)," Stewart told Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.

He added, "I've made it pretty clear that I'm just not in the mood to give up three or four players for one guy at the back end of my bullpen."

Ziegler quickly stole the ninth-inning job from Addison Reed last season, and proceeded to convert 30 of his 32 save opportunities. The sidearmer posted an impressive 1.85 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 68 innings of work, and will make $5.5 million in 2016 before becoming a free agent next offseason.

The trade market for elite closers was dictated earlier this month when the San Diego Padres sent Craig Kimbrel to the Boston Red Sox for four prospects, including outfielder Manuel Margot.

Stewart also revealed he hopes to take a run at Japanese right-hander Kenta Maeda, if and when he's posted for bid later this month.
