Dallas Keuchel knew the 2015 season would be award-worthy.

The Houston Astros ace told his mom in March that he would win the American League Cy Young Award, and the 27-year-old made good on that promise Wednesday, claiming 22 of 30 first-place votes to beat out David Price.

Keuchel attributed the award and much of his success to his parents, saying they gave him the skills to prevail in the majors.

"My most fond memories (growing up) is in the backyard with my parents, practicing, and them being there for me," Keuchel told the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich. "Because without them, I wouldn't be in the position I am, and I truly owe them everything I have."

Keuchel became the third Astros pitcher to win the award, joining Mike Scott and Roger Clemens, his idol. The latter made sure to congratulate Keuchel for joining the club after winning the award.

"It meant the world to me," Keuchel told reporters of the call from Clemens.
