Report: White Sox open to trading Avisail Garcia

Anthony Gruppuso / USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox have been patient with Avisail Garcia for the past three years, but that patience may be running out ahead of the 2016 season.

Chicago is open to trading the outfielder and has fielded offers in order to address other needs, according to CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes.

Garcia was viewed as a young player with huge upside when the White Sox acquired him in 2013 from the Detroit Tigers in a three-team trade involving 2007 National League Cy Young award winner Jake Peavy. The 24-year-old, who was slowed by a serious shoulder injury in 2014, hasn't lived up to those expectations, hitting .257/.309/.365 with 13 homers and 59 RBIs in 148 games last season.

The White Sox have some glaring holes in their infield, particularly at third base and second base. Trayce Thompson burst onto the scene for Chicago and seems ready to assume an everyday role in the outfield, joining Melky Cabrera and Adam Eaton, who both have long-term contracts. That, of course, would leave Garcia as the fourth outfielder, or in a platoon situation with Thompson.

Garcia is first-year arbitration eligible and is under team control until 2020.
