Report: Braves, Astros talked megadeal involving Freeman

Atlanta Braves general manager John Coppolella may no longer want to trade first baseman Freddie Freeman, but that doesn't mean he didn't discuss moving the slugger.

The 26-year-old "came up in conversations with the Houston Astros as part of a mega-trade that would've included more than five players," reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Although nothing came of the discussions, sending Freeman to Houston would make sense, with the Astros struggling offensively at the position in 2015.

Atlanta has already parted ways with the majority of its top talent over the last 12 months - including Andrelton Simmons, Craig Kimbrel, Jason Heyward, Evan Gattis, and Justin Upton - so engaging in trade discussions surrounding Freeman shows the Braves may be intent on a complete rebuild.

Coppolella discussed the possibility of a roster overhaul Wednesday and said he believes the Braves could win now and in the future.

"We want to win, don't think anybody wants to lose. It's painful," he said. "But we had one bad season, not three of four years. ... We want to win. And we will win.

"I'm not under any delusions that we'll win 110 games, but we're not going to lose 95 games again. We will win more games than we did last year."

The Braves finished last season with a 67-95 record, their worst finish since 1990.
