Jake Arrieta won his first Cy Young Award on Wednesday, and the right-hander would love to see one of his closest competitors join him in Chicago.

After winning the prestigious award, Arrieta told reporters that runner-up and free agent Zack Greinke would be a welcome addition to the Chicago Cubs' starting rotation.

"I would assume a phone call might be made," Arrieta said of the Cubs pursuing Greinke. "We'd love to have him."

Signing the 32-year-old Greinke will take a long-term, high-dollar contract, but the Cubs are in good position to land themselves a pitcher of his caliber, with plenty of payroll flexibility. Chicago currently has just north of $83 million committed to salaries in 2016, according to spotrac.

Greinke is one of the most sought-after free agents on the market after compiling a 19-3 record with a 1.66 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. With the Cubs looking to add to a rotation currently headlined by Arrieta and Jon Lester, the fit could be ideal for both parties.
