Chicago Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta has been voted the winner of the 2015 National League Cy Young Award, edging out Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I have to say thanks to all the guys I've continued to compete against, year in and year out, to make me try and take my game to the next level," Arrieta said Wednesday after taking a champagne shower from friends and family. "All the hard work has been worth it."

The 29-year-old becomes the fifth pitcher in Cubs history to win the award, joining Ferguson Jenkins, Bruce Sutter, Rick Sutcliffe, and Greg Maddux.

Arrieta also joins fellow Cubs Kris Bryant (Rookie of the Year) and Joe Maddon (Manager of the Year) as 2015 Baseball Writers' Association of America award winners. They're the first trio of winners from one NL team since 1991, when the Atlanta Braves accomplished the feat.

The righty posted career-best numbers in wins, ERA, games started, complete games, innings pitched, WHIP, and strikeouts.
