Carpenter elects free agency after being outrighted off 40-man roster

David Carpenter elected free agency after he was outrighted off the Washington Nationals' 40-man roster, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.

Analysis:

Carpenter missed extended time towards the end of the 2015 season with a shoulder injury, but his wealth of experience in the majors will likely lead to a contract from another team during the offseason. He's just two years removed from posting a career-best 1.78 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 65.2 innings with the Braves.
