Happ says he's had 'a lot' of interest in free agency

J.A. Happ's stock is in high demand.

The free-agent left-hander told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday that he's drawing a lot of attention from suitors.

"We've had a lot of interest," Happ said. "We'll let the market play out, we're talking to teams every day."

Happ, 33, pitched some of the best baseball of his nine-year career after being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Seattle Mariners last July, and would welcome a return to the Steel City.

"We had a great time, they left a good impression," he explained of the Pirates. "We'll hope to definitely have more dialogue with them."

After pitching to a 4-6 record with a 4.64 ERA in 21 appearances for the Mariners, Happ posted a 1.85 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 11 starts for the Pirates, helping them in their surge to the postseason.

The experienced southpaw earned $6.7 million in 2015 and could be an excellent second-tier option for a team in need of a left-handed starter.
