Report: Tigers interested in Yovani Gallardo

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Tigers are looking for pitching help this fall, and Yovani Gallardo may fit the bill as a middle-tier starter.

Detroit is showing early interest in signing the right-hander, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Gallardo has until 5 p.m. ET on Friday to formally accept or decline a one-year, $15.8-million qualifying offer from his former club, the Texas Rangers. He will have draft-pick compensation tied to him, however, if he rejects it and signs elsewhere.

The 29-year-old hurler is expected to command a multi-year offer on the free-agent market after posting a 13-11 record with a 3.42 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 33 starts for Texas.

Detroit is lacking depth in its rotation behind veterans Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez, with youngsters Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd, and Buck Farmer currently projected to round out the rotation.
