Report: Reds, D-Backs contemplating 2nd basemen swap

Frank Victores / USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Phillips has spent the past 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, but rumors are swirling he could soon be packing his bags for the desert.

The Reds have discussed the possibility of trading the veteran second baseman to the Arizona Diamondbacks for another experienced player at the position, Aaron Hill, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Rosenthal notes talks haven't progressed to a serious stage yet, and trading Phillips has massive implications for the Reds. Phillips has secured 10-and-5 rights, granting him the power to veto any potential deal. The charismatic four-time Gold Glover is also a fan favorite in Cincinnati, and shipping him out of town may enrage an already discouraged fan base after a lackluster 2015 season.

2015 STATS

PLAYER AVG OBP OPS HR RBI SB
Brandon Phillips .294 .328 .723 12 70 23
Aaron Hill .230 .295 .640 6 39 7

Phillips, 34, is still owed $27 million over the next two seasons, while Hill, 33, is only on the books for $12 million in 2016 before becoming a free agent.
