Lance Lynn: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Lynn underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday and will miss the entire 2016 season, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

While Lynn battled elbow and forearm issues toward the middle of the year, there was never any indication that his ulnar collateral ligament was damaged. The right-hander allowed just one run over his final three starts of 2015, lowering his ERA for the season to 3.03. Fortunately for St. Louis, Adam Wainwright should be available to step into Lynn's rotation spot, with Tyler Lyons, Tim Cooney (abdomen) and Marco Gonzales waiting in the wings if there are other injuries.
