Report: Joakim Soria drawing interest from Tigers, Rangers, Red Sox
Joakim Soria is drawing interest from three teams, two of which are former clubs of his.
The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers are showing interest in signing the veteran free-agent reliever, according to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, who later added that the Boston Red Sox were also interested in his services.
Soria spent brief stints with both the Rangers and Tigers in the past two seasons, most recently with Detroit last year, before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a playoff push.
Texas, Detroit, and Boston need to drastically improve their respective bullpens this fall after dropping near the bottom of the league ranks in ERA last season, with the Tigers also last in opponents' batting average.
The 31-year-old caught fire as the setup man behind closer Mark Melancon, compiling a 2.03 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 28 strikeouts over 26 2/3 innings after being acquired in July.
Soria has 202 career saves to his credit, and can be used in all high-leverage situations.
