The Boston Red Sox made a number of procedural moves on Friday in order to adjust their 40-man roster.
Relievers Jean Machi and Alexi Ogando elected free agency after being outrighted from the major league roster.
Right-handed reliever Ryan Cook was placed on waivers before being claimed by the Chicago Cubs. The 28-year-old was acquired from the Oakland Athletics at the non-waiver deadline.

Ogando | 3.99 | 65.1 | 53 | 1.33 |
Cook | 27.00 | 4.1 | 3 | 3.92 |
First baseman Allen Craig was also outrighted, but accepted his assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket in order to collect the $9 million he's owed next season.
Catcher Sandy Leon agreed to a one-year deal, before accepting an assignment to Triple-A. He'll fall behind Blake Swihart, Ryan Hanigan, and Christian Vazquez in the organization's catching depth chart.
