The Philadelphia Phillies augmented their bullpen depth Tuesday, claiming right-hander Dan Otero off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.

Otero, a 21st-round pick in the 2007 draft, made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2012 before spending the last three seasons in Oakland. Though he crafted a 2.01 ERA with a 56.3 percent ground-ball rate over 105 appearances from 2013 to 2014, Otero stumbled this season, finishing with the highest ERA (6.75) and opponents' batting average (.327) among relievers with at least 40 innings pitched.

After being added to Philadelphia's 40-man roster on Tuesday, the 30-year-old told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle he's "definitely bummed" about leaving Oakland.

In 2015, the Phillies' bullpen finished among the bottom six in the National League in both ERA (3.81) and WHIP (1.44), but also endured the second-fewest meltdowns in the league.
