Volquez calls Colabello his 'daddy'

When you're this good, they call you daddy.

In an ode to Pedro Martinez's famous declaration that the New York Yankees were his "daddy," fellow countryman Edinson Volquez gave high praise to Chris Colabello after the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman took him deep in Wednesday's Game 5 of the ALCS.

"I'm going to call him my daddy. He got me ... he got me," the Kansas City Royals right-hander told reporters after his team's 7-1 loss. "The last time I faced him he got a homer and today he hit another homer, with two strikes. So he's been seeing the ball pretty good against me."

Colabello's solo homer in the second inning capped a trifecta of success he's had against Volquez, who was also victimized by the right-handed slugger during the regular season and 2013 World Baseball Classic while playing for Italy.

The home run was Colabello's second of the postseason and his first ever on an 0-2 pitch. It also marked the first home run allowed by Volquez on a changeup since July 5, 2014.

"You're going to call him your daddy?" a reporter asked Volquez.

"Yeah," the pitcher responded. "I'm just kidding."
