Kershaw's postseason losing streak extends to 5 games

Clayton Kershaw may be one of the best pitchers in the game, but when it comes to the postseason, he's a hard-luck loser.

The Los Angeles Dodgers ace pitched well in Friday's loss to the New York Mets in Game 1 of their National League Division Series, but it wasn't good enough to earn him a win, thus extending his postseason losing streak to five games and a 1-6 record overall.

"I got outpitched, basically that's the moral of the story," Kershaw told reporters of his loss to Mets counterpart Jacob deGrom. "Jacob pitched an amazing game. We battled him, got his pitch count up there, but he outpitched me, plain and simple."

Kershaw struck out 11 hitters and allowed just three hits in 6 2/3 innings of work, but a solo home run to lefty Daniel Murphy gave the Mets an early advantage, and a two-RBIs single from David Wright later in the game extended their lead.

"Lefties had a good approach," Kershaw said. "I felt a little more comfortable against righties tonight. I don't face that many lefties usually. Basically, tip your cap to them, that's the best thing to do."

Kershaw hasn't earned a postseason victory since March 10, 2013 against the Atlanta Braves.
