Rangers' Beltre tried to talk his way into Game 2

Following their Game 2 win, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told reporters he heard injured third baseman Adrian Beltre was trying to talk his way into a pinch-hitting appearance late in Friday's extra-inning battle with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

Many viewers were surprised to see the 36-year-old in the dugout, holding a bat, after word broke that he was hitting off a tee in the dugout tunnel during the 11th inning. He didn't end up entering the game, though, as his replacement, Hanser Alberto, drove in the winning run in the 14th.

"I have no status," Beltre said of his chances to play Game 3 on Sunday. He suffered a back strain while sliding into second base during the first inning of Game 1 on Thursday.

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the four-time All-Star was struggling to put his shoes and socks on after the game, but that Beltre has not experienced any numbness or tingling in his legs which rules out a herniated disc.
