Report: Giants' deal with Cuban outfielder Martinez falls through

A reported deal between the San Francisco Giants and highly touted Cuban outfielder Eddy Julio Martinez has fallen through, according to multiple reports.

Though the parties reportedly agreed to a $2.5-million signing bonus, the 20-year-old's father is seeking a bonus closer to $3 million, a source told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.

Martinez, who spent two seasons in Cuba's Serie Nacional and played for the country's junior national team, left the island in November and was poised to join a crop of talented international prospects in the Giants organization before his deal collapsed.

Once considered among the top prospects of the current international signing period, Martinez drew significant interest this summer from numerous teams and was expected to command at least a $10-million signing bonus, according to Mark Polishuk of MLBTradeRumors.
