Report: Playoff hero Murphy not in Mets' future plans

Daniel Murphy has conquered some of baseball's best pitchers while playing the role of hero for the New York Mets in the postseason, but that may not be enough for the franchise to change its future outlook about the infielder.

According to sources, Murphy is not in the Mets' future plans, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

The 30-year-old, who has hit home runs off the game's best in four consecutive games, has been a clutch hitter in the postseason, helping New York to a 2-0 series lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series. The team, however, believes that Dilson Herrera or Wilmer Flores could take over the role next season.

"He's been great, really great," a source told Ackert of Murphy. "But it changes nothing."

Murphy has hit .357/.379/.929 with five home runs and eight RBIs during the postseason after his regular-season home run total hit a career-high mark of 14.
