Jennings won't return as Marlins manager

The Miami Marlins announced Tuesday that Dan Jennings, who left the front office to take over as the club's manager May 18, will not return in that capacity next season.

Despite being relieved of his on-field duties, Jennings remains under contract as general manager, but has not yet decided if he'll remain in that role, according to president of baseball operations Michael Hill.

Even with Jennings' future in flux, though, team president David Samson tried to dispel recent reports suggesting the Marlins were primed for a front-office overhaul.

"There is no upheaval," Samson said. "We are the front office we were when the season started and we are returning to that."

Changes to the coaching staff seem inevitable, however. Hill said the club's new manager will "have a role in hiring a new staff," while every member of the current staff was told they are free to seek opportunities elsewhere.

"Interesting names keep coming," Samson said of managerial candidates. "I will say there will be anywhere from (four) to 20 interviews."
