Rangers' Choo, Rockies' Arenado earn monthly honors

For the final time this season, Major League Baseball revealed their monthly award winners.

Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado were named the American and National League Players of the Month.

Choo's efforts helped propel the Rangers to their first division title since 2011 after hitting .404/.515/.625 with five home runs, six doubles, and 20 RBIs.

Arenado capped off a breakout season hitting .339/.366/.705 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. The 24-year-old finished the season in a tie for the NL lead with 42 home runs.

Cleveland Indians right-hander Cody Anderson took home AL Pitcher of the Month, while Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta was honored in the senior circuit.

Anderson went 5-0 with a 1.38 ERA across 39 innings while striking out 20 in the final month of his rookie season.

Arrieta boosted his Cy Young candidacy by going 4-0 across five starts, while allowing just two earned runs in 40 innings and striking out 39.

The Indians also picked up another award winner as shortstop Francisco Lindor took home AL Rookie of the Month honors, while Miami Marlins first baseman Justin Bour was named NL Rookie of the Month.

Lindor, a candidate for AL Rookie of the Year, slashed .362/.395/.657 with five home runs, eight doubles, four triples, and five stolen bases.

Bour picked up nine home runs and 27 RBIs while hitting .274/.308/.558.
