Cardinals GM optimistic Molina will be on postseason roster

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals remain hopeful that they'll have their leader available for the postseason.

General manager John Mozeliak said Monday that he believes catcher Yadier Molina will play, despite still dealing with a thumb ligament injury.

"We are still optimistic that Yadier will be on our postseason roster," Mozeliak said.

Molina was ruled out for the final six games of the regular season and Mozeliak said that he'll attempt to play while wearing a splint.

The 33-year-old is hitting .270/.310/.350 with four home runs, 23 doubles, and 61 RBIs, in 136 games.

Tony Cruz has started in Molina's absence.
