Yankees' Nova bumped from rotation, will pitch out of bullpen

Ivan Nova appears poised to end his first season back from Tommy John surgery in a relief role as the New York Yankees removed the scuffling 28-year-old from the rotation ahead of Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay.

Nova made his season debut June 24, nearly 14 months after having his ulnar collateral ligament reconstructed, but has struggled mightily of late, managing a 7.46 ERA over his last seven starts. Yankees manager Joe Girardi confirmed Adam Warren will take over in the rotation for Nova, who owns a 5.11 ERA (78 ERA+) with a 1.40 WHIP in 75 2/3 innings since returning from surgery.

Nova, who allowed six earned runs over just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, will be available out of the bullpen this weekend, Girardi added.

The beleaguered right-hander, though, isn't the only member of New York's rotation who has stumbled down the stretch. Though Masahiro Tanaka and C.C. Sabathia have thrived in September, neither Luis Severino nor Michael Pineda have enjoyed a particularly memorable month thus far.

Name GS ERA HR K/BB
Ivan Nova 2 10.57 2 2
Luis Severino 2 7.27 3 1.5
Nathan Eovaldi 1 5.06 0 1.75
Michael Pineda 3 4.67 4 4.25
Adam Warren 1 4.5 0 INF
Masahiro Tanaka 3 2.11 2 11
CC Sabathia 2 0.79 0 2.2
