Tigers' Iglesias to miss 2 weeks with broken finger

Jose Iglesias is going to need some time off.

The Detroit Tigers shortstop has been ruled out of action for two weeks with a non-displaced chip fracture in his right middle finger.

Iglesias was hit by a pitch in the third inning of Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Preliminary X-rays came back negative, but after Iglesias reported that his finger felt worse on Friday, additional testing was ordered.

"Every finger's important to hit," Iglesias told reporters. "Unfortunately, it's my throwing hand as well, but to hit you need all of them healthy. I don't think you can cheat with a finger, hitting-wise, at least I don't know (of a way). Maybe if it's another one you can work your way around. But it just feels sore."

Detroit slotted 23-year-old rookie Dixon Machado into the lineup at shortstop against the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

The 25-year-old Iglesias was hitting .300/.347/.717 with 23 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.
