The 29-year-old took over the NL lead on the same night Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis became the first player in baseball to reach 40 home runs, taking over the AL lead in the process.

Gonzalez, who has 26 home runs in his last 51 games, struggled in the first two months of the season, hitting .235/.337/.318 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
