Mets' Murphy sidelined with mild quad strain

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is day to day after an MRI revealed a mild left quad strain on Thursday.

Murphy exited Wednesday's 9-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies due to discomfort in his left quad, but the team deemed his removal precautionary at the time.

A recent back injury to Lucas Duda prompted manager Terry Collins to move the versatile Murphy to first base, but Murphy figures to move back to second base upon Duda's return in a week or so.

Michael Cuddyer or Eric Campbell could be candidates to fill in at first base if Murphy can't play Friday versus the Miami Marlins.

Murphy has been a consistent offensive presence for the Mets, hitting .282/.325/.430 with 10 homers and 58 RBIs through 107 games.
