VIDEO: Phillies' Brown gifts Mets inside-the-park HR by tumbling into stands

Domonic Brown never had the most sterling reputation as a defender, even when his name sat atop the Philadelphia Phillies' top prospects lists more than a half-decade ago.

At Citi Field on Wednesday, the 27-year-old demonstrated exactly why his defensive acumen seldom impressed scouts, tumbling into the stands while trying to corral a ball off the bat of Ruben Tejada. The misplay allowed the slow-footed New York Mets shortstop to record an inside-the-park home run.

A little embarrassment was the least of Brown's problems, though, as he was lifted from the game two innings later because of concussion concerns. Shortly thereafter, he was driven back to Philadelphia to be examined by a specialist on Thursday.

Brown, a 20th-round pick by Philadelphia in 2006, has logged only 63 games with the Phillies this season after spending the last two seasons as the club's primary left fielder. Over that span, only seven outfielders managed fewer defensive runs saved than Brown.
