Tigers' Gose apologizes for 'stupid' mental gaffe in outfield

Anthony Gose is trying to put Saturday's error behind him - only time will tell if another sold out crowd in Toronto lets him.

The Detroit Tigers center fielder cost his team a run during the 15-1 blowout loss when he thought he caught the final out of the fourth inning. The mishap allowed the Blue Jays' Ryan Goins to score from second base on Josh Donaldson's sacrifice fly, and less than 24 hours later, the former Blue Jays prospect was still beating himself up about it.

"Fifty thousand people and everybody knows how many outs except me," Gose told reporters prior to Sunday's finale. "... It happened yesterday, so what am I gonna do? I can't go back."

Acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade during the offseason, Gose's error amounted to nothing more than a footnote in the lopsided game. Nonetheless, Gose said he apologized to Tigers right-hander Buck Farmer for what he described as a "stupid mistake."

"Yeah, I'm not happy," Gose said. "I'm the only one running off the field with the ball in my hand. At that point, you feel about as low as you can."
