San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will miss Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals after experiencing residual soreness in his elbow from a hit by pitch.

Posey was plunked in the third inning of Friday's game by Michael Wacha, but stayed in the contest and went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. The Giants won 5-4.

Posey said he could be available Saturday as a pinch-hitter and remains hopeful to return to the starting lineup Sunday. The MVP candidate is hitting .313/.371/.471 with 16 homers and 22 doubles in 120 games.

Backup catcher Andrew Susac is batting seventh in Posey's place.
