Encarnacion homers again to extend streak to 24 games

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion extended his career-long hitting streak to 24 games with a three-run homer in the first inning of Saturday's game against Detroit.

Toronto's designated hitter connected against right-hander Buck Farmer for his 27th home run of the season before adding No. 28 with a two-run shot in the sixth. The multi-homer effort gave him five long balls in his last six games, and makes him the third Blue Jays player (Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson) with at least nine home runs in August.

Encarnacion's streak is the longest in the majors since Colorado's Nolan Arenado had a 28-game run in 2014.

Encarnacion has now reached base safely in each of the past 29 games.
