Report: Mariners plan to interview Jerry Dipoto for GM opening

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners are in the market for a new general manager to get the team back on track this winter, and a front-runner could be emerging.

Former Los Angeles Angels GM Jerry Dipoto is one of the candidates the Mariners are targeting to succeed Jack Zduriencik, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Rosenthal says Dipoto, who's currently a baseball consultant with the Boston Red Sox after resigning from his post in L.A. on July 1, will interview for the vacant GM position in Seattle.

Dipoto spent almost four seasons as GM of the Angels, and also served as the interim GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks before the Angels hired him to replace Tony Reagins.

Former Colorado Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd and Texas Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine are also rumored to be in the mix for the job.

The Mariners fired Zduriencik on Aug. 28 and promoted assistant GM Jeff Kingston to finish the season in an interim role.
