Tim Lincecum's season is over, and so might his career with the San Francisco Giants.

The two-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher and impending free agent will miss the remainder of the season, according to general manager Bobby Evans, after undergoing season-ending surgery on his ailing left hip.

Lincecum had been seeking a second opinion on his degenerative hip, which landed him on the disabled list in late July and affected the right-hander's velocity. He was in Colorado on Wednesday to be examined by hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon, at which point he made the decision to move forward with the surgery.

"He won't be able to come back this season, that's evident," Evans said on KNBR 680-AM, according to CSN Bay Area. " ... The next step for him is to do everything he can to come back and get well, but it's gonna take him out for the season at this point."

TALE OF TWO TIMS

Years W-L ERA FIP CG K/9
2007-11 69-41 2.98 2.93 8 9.9
2012-15 39-42 4.68 1.08 2 8.4

A three-time World Series champion with the Giants, Lincecum's production has steadily waned over the last few seasons. The 31-year-old won back-to-back Cy Youngs in 2008 and 2009, but has stumbled to a 4.68 ERA since 2012 and currently owns the lowest strikeout rate of his career.

Lincecum is in the final season of a two-year, $35-million deal, and will be a free agent this winter.
